Finally sunshine...

Finally, sunshine again .... A high pressure above the ice sheet provides us with nice weather .... After many days of gray weather, snow and wind. It's like waking up to a newborn world with strong light .. .. Joy of life is increasing, the temperature falls and the days get longer... optimism spreads ... It is a lovely time approaching....

A break from blogging .....

I'm back on the blog after a few days' break ... I made a break from the computer, which was about to take all my spare time ... It has snowed and blown most days in January ... There is not as much snow as last year, but there are still come a lot of snow ..
Municipal workers have dug a staircase in the snow ... so it's easier to get to the houses ... the stairs are quickly destroyed when residents dragging cans of oil up to the houses ...
Here is Jan's house in October ....

And the same house on 29 January with a lot more snow ....

Yamarin on Ice ...

My boat came up on the ice today ... The boat has remained firmly in the ice since December, and it seems that there is not so much ice on the fjord this year ... My plan is to put the boat into the water again , in the near future ... The boat is manufactured by the Finnish yard Yamarin ... And it has a Yamaha engine with 100 hp ...

Back in Kuummiut

We are bound for heliport .... mom comes home from Tasiilaq ... We have now come to the football pitch .. Our football club is called K 64

At the heliport ... An elderly man is on the sledge ... He will travel by helicopter to hospital in Tasiilaq ... This sledge is our ambulance in Kuummiut...

Ida and mother are happy ... Mom has just come out of the helicopter ... Perhaps there are gifts??

Next to the football field is a typical Greenlandic house ... in front of the house: an old sled and a four-wheel bike and some sled dogs.....

The little house, our prison ... It is quite lonely situated on the outskirts of Kuummiut ....

Low pressure...and a smile....

The view from Kuummiut against Denmark Strait ... A typical weather picture for the months December and January ... Low pressure after the low pressure moves from the South (Newfoundland) up through the Denmark Strait. Low pressures bring a lot of wind and snow with them ... During February the weather tends to be stabilizing ... We have high pressure, it's cold and plenty of sunshine ... I look forward to this time ..
My wife still smiling..... Before we heard the helicopter was canceled....She still waits for a chance to come to Tasiilaq, and maybe reach the plane on Wedensday from Kulusuk to Nuuk......In Greenland we must learn to be patient ... No one knows what tomorrow brings.....

Polarbear

Photo: ©Ewald Mathiassen
An inhabitant of Kuummiut, Ewald Mathiassen took the picture about 500 km north of Kuummiut near the large fjord, Kangerlussuaq ... In summer hunters sometimes sail from Kuummiut up to the great fjord to hunt Narewhales ... Ewald saw this bear swim in the fjord, and had a nice picture ... Very close to the bear ... The bear was'nt shot ... At this time bears are protected ... We have a large population of polar bears here on the East Greenland. If you are interested in following the polar bear migration, follow this link: You must have installed Google Earth on your computer .... http://www.seaice.dk/Polarbears/2007/PolarBears2007-30days.kmz

My Weather station

I have got a weather station in the Christmas gift ... A "Lacrosse WS 3600" .. Base Station hangs on the wall in the dining room .. It works fine ... But the base station can't communicate with my computer .... I have downloaded a program called Weather Display ... So I can get a weather report for Kuummiut ... But it'll takes a long time before it comes to my Blog and "Weater Underground" There are no experts here who can help me ....
In this photo you can see the computer display... In the lower right corner you can see a bright green square ... "Data quality ok" ... The computer receives data ... But there is a lack of light in the square over the green ... There is nothing shown in the chart above...The data is not from my weather Station... Maybe someone can help me??
