Good night

The picture was taken at 22.30 tonight ... It will not be dark at night now ... Daylight 24 hours a day ... We have a little trouble sleeping :-)

With Saturday

My friend Mario from Portugal wrote there were 30 ° C in the shade where he lived ... So hot, isn't it here in Kuummiut, approx. 8 ° C in the shade today ... But at the sunny side of the house are great to stay ... Here my wife and our daughter are sitting and enjoy the good weather ...

Enclosed...

Again a lovely warm sunny day ... Calm almost all day .. It feels like being in prison here in the house ...The fjord wisper to me come,come.. But I am still sick, and I have to be inside the house ...
Afternoon ...
Snow evaporates now... They are no water from melting snow, the snow just disappears into the air ... At the port is now placed a lockout .. It consists of a very strong rope which is stretched at the entrance to the port ... It prevents icebergs in to enter the port ...

Morning

Calm ... In the horizon I can now see the pack ice ... In a few days, perhaps Ammassalik Fjord is filled with pack ice...

Bye to the sledge

The snow is melting fast now ... There is daylight 24 hours a day ... The plants are growing, it will soon be summer ... We have traveled with our little sledge the whole winter ... Now the sledge will be put away and wheelbarrows should be out running again...

Lyrics to Ajajajaa

Ajajajaa

They lived
In peace
For hundreds of years
Ajajajaa

They respected their song deeply.
Later it lived among them in silence,
As the heartbeat of life
Ajajajaa

Alas, their song was silenced by the eastern beliefs
Put out of by a strong wind of change.
The beauty it gave
Its people
Ended.
Their spirit suffocated.
Ajajajaa

It was forgotten for many years,
The people grew weak
Full of despair
Ajajajaa

Longing for their lost identity
They waited for the return of their song.
Wishing to gain strength from it once more
Ajajajaa

It came like a wind from the great mountains
Ending the time of darkness.
Restoring the old song
Returning the heartbeat of the people
Who once again grew strong
Ajajajaa

Now their spirit is set on a journey.
Destined to travel forever.
Ajajajaa

Snow and rain

Snow and rain and still huge amounts of snow on the ground ... It is the school janitor who shovels snow ... The picture was taken at the door for teachers to the school entrance ...

Sunny day in May 2005 ... The picture is from Tasiilaq (Ammassalik) ... In May, June, usually we go to Tasiilaq to buy goods in the shop

We generally use to sail to Ikateq in May. A former U.S. Air Base ... It is very special to go around in these environments ...
IDA has suddenly become very tired :-) Photo May 2005
It's fun to play in the old military trucks at the base ....

Today it snowed and we spent most of the day indoors ... I've baked bread so we have enough for the next week ... There was also time for baking a cake ... Our pepper plant has small, fine fruit now ..

We only have fresh fruit and vegetables in the time we get the ship from Denmark ... From the beginning of July to mid-October ...

Holiday :-)

We had a day off from school today ... Nice to be able to relax in the morning ... In the afternoon I sailed out on the fjord ... A wonderful weather ... calm ... and an incredibly beautiful Ammassalik Fjord...
I sailed into the inlet side to look for seals on the winter ice .. They usually suns them selves on the ice in the sunshine....I met Andreas who was in search of seals ... We saw a seal, but was disturbed by helicopter ... rich tourists helliskiing ...
Andreas is a nice old sealer ... Now he serves no money, because of some sick people's attitude to seal hunting ... Yes poverty is spreading in our village ...

Time for a cup of coffee ...

Ikaasaq as a mirror in the spring sunshine....

Mikkel was lucky he shot a seal ... the seal is on the sledge

The capelins are here

We sailed all day on the fjord ... IDA has caught many capelins on this little fishing rod ... Every year in May-June months the fish swim in huge numbers to Ammassalik Fjord ... Here they put their eggs in the low water near the coast ... The Greenlandic word: "Ammassat" means capelin ... The Fjord and city has been named "Ammassalik" because of the small fish ...
The fish swim in the shallow water and put their eggs ... The white areas on the bottom are fish eggs...
Fish and eegs...

IDA has caught a capelin ...

Great to fish in the beautiful surroundings.....

Mom caught a funny fish...Good for soupe....
