"Smoke on the water"

It has been cold...The high pressure over northeastern Greenland spreading south and we enjoy the fine weather ... The cold from the air, the heat of the water and light winds cause the smoke from the water....
Outlook from the tray at the school down to the port and Ammassalik fjord....
Here the river tends to run when it is summer...Now it's frozen....

In the gray house, there are washing machines to village residents. You can also rent a room in the house ...

Shrovetide buns from Kuummiut

It is a Danish tradition to bake Shrovetide buns ... Here in Kuummiut I also bake these buns ... And they taste good.... :-)
This is traditional Danish recipe.....
1 dl. Whole milk.. 3 tbsp. Sugar... 1 Egg... 85 grams Butter... 35 grams yeast... 250 grams Wheat flour... Filling: 2 Egg... yolks... 3 tbsp Sugar... 2 tsp. Wheat flour... Vanilla Sugar... 2 dl. Whipping cream 38%
Start with the warm milk, it met the egg and butter. So touching the yeast, but beware, the milk must not be too hot. Now mix sugar and flour, and kneading the dough until it is blank. Rolled out to a large plate to cut into 9 squares around 10x10 cm .. Top each square put a dollop of vanilla cream that is made in this way: Egg yolks whipped with sugar, cream Stir in alternately with the flour. All whipped well warmed through, without boiling, and season with vanilla sugar. When the cream is put on, fold the four corners together against the cream. The bun reversed and placed on the joining of a greased baking sheet. Increase warmth and cover for approx. 25 minutes. Brushed with egg, bake at 225 degreesC/ 437 degreesF for approx. 10 minutes. Before serving up a little glaze on top of each muffin.

Turn the cat of the barrel

It has been a widespread public belief that a city could escape the plague, if a black cat was killed. Therefore, since the Middle Ages symbolic ombragés dogs throughout Europe at Shrovetide. It is believed that it was a cat, it went beyond the barrel because it was the lunar list sacred animals which were then sacrificed in brighter times. The French threw live cats into the Midsummer fire, while the Germans threw them into the fire that burned through Easter. Or, pulled them from a church. In Denmark stopped Monday cats in a barrel and beat on it until it went down. After which the children could beating cat to death with a stick and twigs.
Today the cat is made of cloathes....The history of the old tradition is forgotten.....But the tradition with the barrel is still alive to great pleasur for the kids....
It is Idas's turn......

Every class have their own barrel. The one who smash the barrel becoms "King of cats", and the one who smash the the last part of the barrel, to the ground becomes "Queen of Cats"

Spring in my window sill....

Last summer we harvested more fine pepper fruits of this plant ... I have cared for the plant during the winter .. I have stored it in a cold room ... and when the light began to come back, I put it in a window facing the south ... Today I discovered flower buds in the plant ... so maybe we get an early harvest this year ...:-)

Morning and nice weather

Another sunny day .. the country is bright and inviting.... It is a pity that I can not be out there .. I have throat inflammation but have got penicillin.... so I hope I'm healthy again in a few days..
The mountains on the opposite side of Ammassalik Fjord reflected in the thin new ice.... The temperature the past few days have been between -8 and -10 degrees C/ 17,6 - 14 degrees F.. It might be able to get ice on the fjord yet, but it requires quiet weather and frost in many days ... and ... the weather report is promising snow and wind ... ????
